     JOBS & THE ECONOMY

    I support:

Re-energizing our economy based on our natural strengths.
    • Solar and renewable energy
    • Quality of life build upon our unique desert environment
    • Public/Private partnerships with our universities

We have incredible opportunities to build a 21st Century economy. The University of Arizona is one of the top research institutions in America and that research can be turned into cutting edge industry in the fields of optics, solar power and biomedicine.

I would like to see development of more organizations such as Science Foundation Arizona to help encourage more investment in private/partnerships.

We must allow our research universities to share in the profits of their discoveries.

     EDUCATION

OVER 93% OF ARIZONA'S CHILDREN ATTEND PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

A well-educated population tends not to need welfare, AHCCS or end up in state prisons.

    I support:
    • Fully funding our public schools
    • Fully supporting our public universities

We need to stop slashing our public school budgets. We’re eating our economic seed corn and this must stop. As the economy improves and state revenues increase, we must devote most of that new money to our schools. Money alone won’t improve public schools, but more resources mean more options and more ways to teach kids.

With that increased money, must come increased expectations. The best teachers deserve more money and the best schools should be rewarded.

However, we must be careful not to punish children in under-performing schools, while working to turn those schools around.

We must recognizing that a smarter population tends NOT to need welfare, AHCCCS or end up in state prisons, thus shrinking the size of government.  A well-educated population is the true way to shrink the size of government.

We must take a long-term approach and reverse the disastrous course set by the current legislative majority who are waging a war on neighborhood public schools and campuses of state universities.

     BUDGET

A budget is truly a mirror of what a community respects and desires.  As a business owner I understand the need for efficiency and making sure every penny is spent wisely.

I will fight for funding for our public schools, the protection of our vulnerable populations and our precious desert environment.

I support a complete review of Arizona’s tax codes. We must ensure that the tax laws on the books are still credible, useful and legal.
