CHERYL CAGE
Fighting for Families. Fighting for Business.
FIGHTING FOR SOUTHERN ARIZONA.

Meet Cheryl
Cheryl Cage has cut her own path in life. Seeing opportunities others missed, she doggedly built a business and became a leader in the aviation industry.

The state senate needs that kind of insight and effort now more than ever. It needs a listener, not pontificators.

It needs a pragmatist, not radicals. Southern Arizona needs Cheryl Cage because all of Arizona deserves better.

No southern Arizona law maker has lost a general election in 18 years. Incumbents will take voters for granted until voters demand to be taken seriously. Help Cheryl Cage as she fights to take back our corner of the state senate. Don’t help her for her. Help her for you.

And help her build a better future for all of Arizona.

Professional Background (expanded)
Cheryl Cage began Cage Consulting in 1988. Over 25,000 pilots have used the services of Cage Consulting in preparing for pilot interviews and over 100,000 copies of Cage Consulting aviation and business career books have been sold.

In addition to her work with individual clients, from 1990 to 2001 Cheryl served as an Independent Consultant to the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). During this time she presented pilot interview preparation seminars to over 5,000 displaced ALPA pilots from PanAm, Midway, USAirways, TWA, Air Wisconsin, West Air, and Aspen Airways to name a few. In 2001 Cheryl was retained by the Allied Pilots Association (the pilot union for American Airlines) and the United Airlines ALPA to present job search workshops for their furloughed pilot members. Cheryl also spent many years providing seminars to professional organizations and corporations on a variety of topics such as conflict resolution, thriving during difficult times and how to prioritize goals.

In 1994 Cheryl wrote and published her first book Checklist for Success: A Pilot's Guide to the Successful Airline Interview. Checklist has become 'the' book to read when preparing for a professional pilot interview. Between 1996 and 2001 Cheryl wrote and published several more titles including the popular Airline Pilot Technical Interviews and Mental Math for Pilots by Ronald McElroy, Reporting Clear and The Resilient Pilot by Cheryl Cage. Cage Consulting also broke new ground with their state-of-the-art online training aid for pilots: Pilot E-TrainingTest - Mental Math.

Cheryl's corporate client list includes: Allied Pilots Association, Air Line Pilots Association, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Raytheon, Universal Pilot Application Service, American Airlines, USAirways, and Women in Aviation International. Cheryl wrote regularly on career and personal growth issues and her articles have appeared in Flight Training, Air Line Pilot, Aviation for Women, and The Independent. For two years Cheryl wrote a career column for The Army, Navy, and Air Force Times; this column focused on gaining civilian employment after military retirement or separation.

Political (expanded)
Cheryl has been involved in grassroots community activism for over twenty years. She has worked on every presidential campaign since 1988.

Since moving to Arizona Cheryl has graduated from the Emerge Program (a political training program for women). In 2006 she ran Lena Saradnik's successful campaign for State Representative. She jump-started Don Jorgensen's 2008 campaign for the LD-26 House of Representatives seat.  Cheryl also was a grassroots organizer to ensure that the general aviation airport in her town (which was located in a highly residential area with many schools within the flight path) did not expand to commercial service.

During 2002-2004 Cheryl was busy working side-by-side with thousands of other United Employees to save the pensions of the retired employees. Unfortunately, all pensions, including Cheryl's husband Young, were turned over to the PBGC (Pension and Benefit Guaranty Corporation).

Personal (expanded)
Cheryl was born into a military family. Her father, Colonel Basil Adams, was a 30-year veteran of the Army Infantry. After his retirement he entered the private sector and worked as a Hospital Administrator for a Private Psychiatric Hospital in Virginia. Cheryl's Mom, Jean, became involved in various organizations at each new base assignment. And, there were lots of new assignments! The Adams Family (no laughing) had the privilege of living in the Panama Canal Zone, Alaska, California, Kansas, Georgia and Virginia. Cheryl attended 10 different schools including three different high schools in four years...and loved every minute of it.

After graduating from college with a B.A.in Psychology Cheryl went to work as a Flight Attendant for Braniff International. During her time there she was a member of the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA).

When Braniff declared bankruptcy (first U.S. airline to do so) in 1981 Cheryl went to work for the International Athletic Clubs of America in marketing, sales and management. After five years with the IAC Cheryl left to start her own career consulting business, Cage Consulting, Inc.

Cheryl has been married to Young Cage, a retired United Airlines Pilot, for 27 years. In retirement Young has returned to his greatest passions: wildlife and photography.

In one of the most fortunate circumstances of her life Cheryl inherited Young's children Kelly and Matt. Both Kelly and Matt are happily married and have graced Cheryl and Young's life with SIX grandchildren (Samantha, Brandon, Abby, Molly, Dave and our newest edition Tigist, age 4 who recently joined our family from Ethiopia). Kelly is a Nutritionist living in Connecticut with her husband Lou, a writer. Matt is a Police Detective in Colorado and is married to Sheila, a CPA.

Both Young and Cheryl have always been avid travelers and took great advantage of the travel benefits of working for an airline. Some of the more memorable trips have been to Ethiopia, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands, Peru, South Africa and Botswana, Costa Rica and Australia.
